A beautiful elegy to the chestnut.

I am so touched and grateful to see this honoring of the American chestnut.. I recently read prodigal summer as well as the overstory, both books really invoke the lost memory of this magnificent tree... I grew up in the northeast woodlands and no one ever talked about how there used to be chestnuts in those forests... the redwoods of the east. Thank you for writing about these sacred beings.

I've been trying to grow chestnut up here in Northern Ontario, from nuts imported from a friend in British Columbia. But the last few times she's sent them, they've arrived already mouldy. Urk.

I was thrilled to find hazelnut trees in the fringes of our yard a couple of weeks ago however!

Thank you for the reminder of stately, wonderful American chestnut.
