Got that one from some mushroom experts on a foraging walk I took. They put the fear of God in me about ALWAYS checking with a human expert before eating, not a book or a website! Unless it's chaga, that's an easy one!
Yeah I'm very cautious with mushroom IDs: and forever amazed with the number of people I see in mushroom ID forums who say "I just ate this, can you please tell me what it is?" Terrifying stuff.
Yeah, I think that may stem from a general separation from nature. The same way many will disregard herbal remedies all together, as if they are worthless, but run to pharmaceuticals. They forget that most prescription drugs have their start in plants. So of course they might think a mushroom in their yard can't be potent enough to cause any real damage.
Yes, agreed! This makes me think of our extractive relationship to plants (and fungi, and nature generally): We think they work when there's something we want from them, but we assume they won't most of the time.
Reminds me of the adage, there are old mushroomers and there are bold mushroomers, but there aren't any old, bold mushroomers!
haha that's a good one!

Lovely. Ever see any red wolves where you are?
No, not yet!
If you do let everyone know! Especially if you’re in Georgia.
I think the only place anyone has even seen one of late is in North Carolina. And that's a very long ugly story. Humanity. Sigh.
Indeed!
