Join me for a food zine party
A virtual gathering to round out the year
I am a longtime lover of zines, having collected them, made them, and lusted over the zines in various library collections (like Barnard, or the Forgotten Zine Archive, or the University of Iowa, to name a few).
My favorite zines to make are collaborative zines: So I’m hosting a (virtual) food zine party. Keep reading for the details!
If you also find cutting and pasting and drawing and photocopying to be a source of joy, please join me for an old fashioned zine making party (but not TOO old fashioned: We are holding it on Zoom after all).
Set aside time to work on your own zine, or contribute a page (or pages) to the group zine. Or both.
The theme of our collaborative zine is food traditions:
Recipes, childhood food memories, collages of vintage Jello molds, the theme is very loose and we’ll each take it in whatever direction we want.
If you want to contribute to the zine, make your page(s) then scan and send them to me. I’ll combine them all into a digital zine to share (which you can print and photocopy and etc. to your heart’s content).
If you're working on your own zine, you don’t need to be following our collective zine’s theme (unless you want to): This is a very fluid, chill, come-as-you-are space.
Time/date/cost/etc:
When: December 29, 1 PM EST.
We’ll go for an hour or so, depending how many of us there are and how crafty we’re feeling.
What to bring: Zine making supplies of your choosing (pens/markers/paints/collage stuff/etc.) plus paper. If you’re making a page/pages for the shared zine, a piece of sketchbook paper or other sturdy paper that you can scan is best.
Cost: FREE for paid newsletter subscribers/Root members.
$10 for everyone else.

Free subscribers: I hope you can join us, too! Venmo me $10 (@rootkitchens) or send via PayPal friends + family (juliaskinner07@gmail.com is my PayPal email, it’s also a black hole so don’t email me there…)
